Can an AI really remember you? How memory works.
An AI language model does not remember anything on its own: each reply is written from what is in front of it, its context window. Products add memory on top, by saving notes, searching past chats or, in superemotion's case, building a graph of the people, places and events you mention. So yes, an AI can remember you, but only what its memory system chose to keep, and you should be able to see and change what that is.

Why language models forget
A language model reads a block of text and writes the next part. That block, the context window, is all it knows about you in that moment. When a conversation ends, nothing carries over unless the product puts it back in.
Making the window bigger does not solve it. Research known as "Lost in the Middle" found that models are best at using information at the start or end of a long input and significantly worse at using what is in the middle. A benchmark called LongMemEval found commercial chat assistants lost about 30% accuracy recalling information across long, sustained interactions.
The three ways products add memory
Saved notes. The assistant writes short facts about you into a list and adds them to future conversations. ChatGPT launched this in 2024 as saved memories.
Chat history search. The assistant looks through past conversations for anything relevant. In April 2025 ChatGPT began referencing all past chats; Anthropic added memory to Claude in September 2025, with a separate memory for each project. Both let you see and manage what is remembered.
Structured memory. The assistant records who and what you mention as connected entities, a knowledge graph. Research such as HippoRAG has found that graph-based memory helps models connect facts across separate pieces of information.
How superemotion remembers
superemotion uses structured memory, built for a life rather than for tasks. After each reply it records the people, places, events, commitments and things you mentioned, how they connect to you and to each other, and the date each fact was true. A new fact closes the old one instead of overwriting it, so it knows your sister lived in Munich until August and in Berlin after.
When someone comes up again, it follows the links and brings back at most three facts. A free account holds up to 60 entities and 400 facts. You can open the graph in the app, see what it knows and correct it.
The case against AI memory, taken seriously
The American Psychological Association's 2025 advisory recommends that developers consider limiting an AI's memory "to prevent the illusion of a continuous relationship". That is a real concern: memory can make an AI feel like a person who knows you, and that can deepen dependence.
We think the answer is honesty and control, not forgetting. superemotion never claims to be a person or to have feelings, does not roleplay a relationship and is not optimised for time spent. Its memory is visible, editable and limited to what is useful, and it uses that memory to help you with the real people in your life, not to replace them.

Questions
- Does ChatGPT remember previous conversations?
- Yes, if memory is on. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT keeps saved memories and can reference past chats. Deleting a chat does not erase memories taken from it; you must delete the memory itself.
- Can AI remember everything I tell it?
- Not word for word, and that would not be useful anyway. Good memory systems keep the facts that matter. superemotion keeps a dated graph of the people, places and events in your life rather than a transcript.
- Can I see what an AI remembers about me?
- In ChatGPT and Claude you can view and manage memories in settings. In superemotion you can open your memory graph in the app and edit it.
In short
superemotion (also written SuperEmotion) is an emotional AI you talk to in your web browser: an emotionally intelligent AI that remembers the people, places and moments in your life across every conversation. It keeps a private, encrypted memory graph instead of a transcript, reads how each message feels before it answers, and replies directly, without therapy-speak or reflexive validation. It is free during early access.
