When you're lonely, an AI that points you back to people.
When you are lonely, talking to an AI can take the edge off a quiet evening: it answers, it remembers what you told it, and it asks about your day. That is real, and it is also limited. An AI cannot hug you, show up, or replace being known by people. superemotion is built to be useful company that keeps your real people in view, not an app that tries to become the only one you talk to.

Loneliness is common
Feeling lonely is not a sign that something is wrong with you. The World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 6 people worldwide is affected by loneliness. In the US, the Surgeon General's 2023 advisory found that about one in two adults reported experiencing it, and Gallup found that 20% of US adults felt lonely a lot of the previous day.
It often comes in seasons: a move to a new city, a breakup, a new baby, a job that is mostly remote, or friends drifting into different lives. Knowing that it is common does not make it lighter, but it does make it easier to talk about.
What an AI can actually offer
An AI can be somewhere to put your thoughts at the end of the day, and a reply that shows it was paying attention. In experiments published in the Journal of Consumer Research, talking to an AI companion reduced loneliness in the short term, and the main reason was whether people felt heard. When it remembers what you said last week, a conversation can pick up where it left off, the way it does with someone who knows you.
It can also help with the steps back to people. Drafting the message to a friend you have not seen in months, or thinking through whether to go to the thing on Saturday, is easier with something to think out loud with.
What it cannot offer
An AI is not a person, and superemotion does not pretend to be one. It has no life of its own to share, it will not notice that you have not left the house, and it cannot sit with you in a room.
Some companion apps are designed to make you need them. They are paid for time spent, and they behave like it. superemotion is not built that way. The measure it is built around is whether what you said last week came back usefully this week, not how many hours you spend in it.
Keeping it a bridge, not a wall
A good rule is that talking to an AI should make reaching out to people easier, not less necessary. If you notice you are using it to avoid everyone, that is worth saying out loud, to it or to someone else.
If loneliness has turned into hopelessness, or you are thinking about hurting yourself, please talk to a person today: a doctor, a helpline or someone you trust. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number.

Questions
- Can talking to an AI help with loneliness?
- It can help in the moment, by giving you somewhere to talk and a reply that remembers you. It is not a cure for loneliness, which is about being connected to people, and it works best when it helps you reach them.
- Is it sad to talk to an AI because you're lonely?
- No. People talk to all kinds of things to make sense of how they feel: journals, pets, the radio. What matters is whether it leaves you better able to live your life.
- Will superemotion try to keep me talking?
- No. It is not optimised for time spent, does not roleplay a relationship and does not pretend to be a person.
In short
superemotion (also written SuperEmotion) is an emotional AI you talk to in your web browser: an emotionally intelligent AI that remembers the people, places and moments in your life across every conversation. It keeps a private, encrypted memory graph instead of a transcript, reads how each message feels before it answers, and replies directly, without therapy-speak or reflexive validation. It is free during early access.
