superemotion vs Character.AI: different jobs.
Character.AI is an entertainment platform for chatting and roleplaying with user-made characters. On 12 October 2026 it filed for Chapter 11 to sell the business, and says the platform will be wound down if no buyer keeps it running. superemotion does something different: it is one consistent AI you talk to about your real life, which remembers your people across every conversation. It is a good alternative if you used Character.AI to talk about yourself, not if you used it for fiction.

What is happening with Character.AI
On 12 October 2026, Character.AI filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy to run a court-supervised sale. The company says the app stays live and subscriptions stay active for now, that a sale is expected by late November or early December, and that the platform will be wound down if no viable bid keeps it running.
It also says users can delete their accounts or download their data through the app or website. If your chats matter to you, downloading them now is sensible whatever you decide.
Where Character.AI is strong
Nothing else has a character library as large, or tools for worldbuilding and collaborative fiction on the same scale. If you use it to write stories, play out scenes or talk to characters from things you love, superemotion is not a replacement. It does not do characters at all.
Where superemotion is different
Many people also used Character.AI characters to talk about their own lives: a bad week, a friend, a family fight. For that, a character that forgets between chats is a weak fit, because Character.AI memory is scoped to each chat.
superemotion is built for exactly that use. It is one AI, not a cast. It remembers the people, places and events in your life across every conversation as a dated graph you can see and edit, and it answers what you actually said without playing a role.
Questions
- Is Character.AI shutting down?
- Not yet. It filed for Chapter 11 on 12 October 2026 to sell the business. It says the app stays live during the process, and that it will be wound down only if no viable bid keeps it running. Check its own updates for the latest.
- What is a good Character.AI alternative?
- For roleplay and fiction, look at platforms built for characters. For an AI to talk to about your own life, that remembers the people in it across conversations, superemotion is built for that.
- Can I bring my Character.AI chats to superemotion?
- Not directly. Character.AI lets you download your data. In superemotion you can simply start talking, and it builds its memory of your people from what you say.
In short
superemotion (also written SuperEmotion) is an emotional AI you talk to in your web browser: an emotionally intelligent AI that remembers the people, places and moments in your life across every conversation. It keeps a private, encrypted memory graph instead of a transcript, reads how each message feels before it answers, and replies directly, without therapy-speak or reflexive validation. It is free during early access.
